I love Bunny McGarry's cosmos! This is yet another of his thrilling encounters and meanwhile I really do hope he will find his beloved Simone one day, he should do so many, many books later! Thx Caimbh for this exciting read! Will be a hard time for me before your next book comes out!
Bunny's adventure continues. Don't want to give anything away - I'll just say I wish the nuns I had at school were that cool. Bunny pursues his original quest but, as in real life, his path never leads straight ahead. Another great read that kept me up way past bedtime. Looking forward to the next chapter!
Without giving anything away, this is another supremely entertaining adventure from the very clever and humorous mind of Caimh McDonnell which continues the story of Bunny McGarry and friends in a delightfully suspenseful and often laugh out loud funny story. If you’ve read any of his stuff, you’re probably already hooked. If you haven’t, you’re missing out! I’m reading them all and listening to them on Audiobook as soon as they become available and both experiences are great! Can’t wait for the next one!
In the first of this series ,Disaster, Inc (McGarry Stateside Book 1), a secretive faction of a U.S. security agency allied with a very powerful U.S. politician came after Bunny McGarry, an Irish cop that rides the line’s girlfriend because of a damning video tape she had of him. She escaped with his aid (leaving a couple of bodies behind) and also with the help of a deep black group of rogue and very tough nuns who perform covert operations against bad guys/governments around the world. Twenty years pass and when those bodies from the past show up, the bad guys do too and they are still looking for Bunny’s sweetie. With the help of a rival security agency faction Bunny faked his death in Ireland and absconded to New York in an attempt to track down his old girlfriend to warn her that she is in serious danger. Bunny quickly makes connections with a very tough dwarf with anger management issues and a good set of lock picks. The dwarf’s buddy, a young, black aspiring actor with an ability to charm anyone and, like the proverbial hooker, with a heart of gold underneath, also joins the team as the junior member. So ends book 1. As this book, the second in the series, opens McGarry's making contact with the rogue nuns proves to be a mixed blessing as he has to protect a mysterious and dedicated young priest against assassination attempts in order to prove his bona fides to the nuns. Things quickly escalate as multiple groups of bad guys with murderous intent converge on Bunny and friends. I won’t kid you, things look bad for our knights in dented armor. Chuckle out loud humor done with a deft touch that doesn’t let the reader forget the serious nature underlying the action. One scene in particular has our violent dwarf driving a cab and reacting to a customer that tries to run out on the fare. While he’s beating up/rolling the crooked customer a nearby homeless person makes a remark and the three of them get into a conversation that is some of the most humorous dead pan dialogue I have run across. I am a big fan of the Bunny series and I think this might be the best one yet. I literally couldn't put the book down. I found myself reading it when in line at the grocery store, walking from one room to another. The only bad part was when I finished the book and realized I have to wait a year for the next installment. This is great fun, with excellent characters and a plot that leaves you turning the pages as fast as you can. Highly recommend!
Caimh McDonnell has done it again! He's given us another great thriller with humor and heart featuring Bunny McGarry and other loveable, quirky characters readers were introduced to in previous books. While this book works as a stand alone, why limit yourself? I've read all of McDonnell's books, and I've enjoyed every moment.This book is full of tension, suspense, mystery, violence, laugh-out-loud moments, and life lessons. The book wraps up the primary story of this volume while setting the stage for the next. In other words, it's a satisfying read by itself. However, I warn you: If you read this book, you'll be hooked and anxiously await the next.My only complaint is that I have to wait until next year for the next McDonnell book to be released.
This book is part of a series, but I think it works fine as a stand alone read. That said, if you read one you will want to read the others. It's full of fascinating characters, and even the minor characters are given depth by the author. It has both humor (I laughed out loud reading it on the train!) and pathos. It is violent, so if you don't like books with violence, give it a miss. However I found it interesting that the author was raising the question, "Are violence and killing ever justified?"I was sad to get to the end of the book, and will be waiting for the next one in this series impatiently.
